This page explains the standards behind every guide on Fitness Equipment Magazine, so you can judge how much weight to give what you read.
Independence
Recommendations are based on the criteria written into each article: stability, fit, noise, footprint, maintenance, safety margins and long-term value. They are never based on who pays us. Affiliate relationships, where they exist, do not influence what we say or how we rank options.
Accuracy and sourcing
We rely on established public guidance, such as the U.S. Physical Activity Guidelines from the Department of Health and Human Services and product-safety information from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, plus manufacturer-neutral engineering and ergonomics principles. Where something is a rule of thumb rather than a measured fact, we label it that way.
What we do not do
- We do not publish made-up test results, ratings or “we measured” claims.
- We do not copy competitor text or spin content for volume.
- We do not give medical advice.
Methodology
Our “How we test” pages describe the criteria we use to evaluate each equipment family, in plain language, so you can apply the same checklist in a showroom or at home.
Corrections and updates
Equipment, standards and safety information change. We review guides regularly, update them when something material changes and fix errors when we find them or when readers point them out. Each guide shows when it was last reviewed.
